Free Download of the single "Mirror":

With any advance ticket to an upcoming CD release show or online order of the new record, "The Bird in my Chest", we will email you a free single of my original song "Mirror," which was recorded and engineered by Dave Kaye last April. While this song is not included on the new CD, it's lyrical content did inspire the title for it! Featuring Dave Kaye on a beautiful additional guitar part and Brodie Kinder on a great duety vocal harmony. Enjoy!

Now on tour with: Dave Kaye!

I'm having such an enjoyable time hanging and playing with my friend Dave Kaye! Here's one shot from our porch rehearsals this week. We're currently en route (car wifi! cool!) to the Canon City CD release show with a banjo, a dobro, two acoustic guitars, an electric, a baritone guitar, a classical guitar, and, last but NEVER least - a uke! Uhhh....we're feeling a little low on foot space!

Artist Statement:

In a recent writing workshop I was asked to send a letter to myself from an 80-year-old version of myself, an exercise to realign a person with their truth. I struggled greatly with the task - feeling content with my current existence, unsure of how to advise my life direction from a far off, unimaginable future.

In fact I didn’t, and don't, desire to secure or shape my course; I am much more interested in the mystery of where I might end up with nothing but a little love and a little trust in my pockets.

The one thing that did come to mind was how I might see myself from that vantage point, with the power and simplicity of retrospect. I imagined looking back on my life and summarizing my existence with one word - A lover.

These songs, poems, and prose, all composed during the same time period, are about keeping that identity well-fed and nurtured - the little alive creature that it is, pulsing and fluttering in my heart.

I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Chris Garre for his assistance in every behind-the-scenes aspect one can imagine. It is because of his help designing, assembling, booking, managing, and promoting that I am able to release this record.

Dear friends,

I'm very happy, and maybe a touch relieved, to announce that my new disc, "The Bird in my Chest" is officially available for purchase at live shows and for mail order (exclusivly via the link in this emailer.)  After several years in the making, is it great to finally hold the physical record in my hands!

As mentioned in the last mailer, I have scheduled a series of theater shows to support the release. Tickets are still available to many of the shows, and a free single of my original song, "Mirror," will be emailed to those that purchase theirs in advance. The single also comes free with a purchase of "The Bird in my Chest." For this CD release tour I will be accompanied by a great friend, guitarist and dobro player, David Kaye, of Washington Depot, CT.

I've been working on this project for roughly three years, taking a series of trips back to the east coast to work with New York based engineer Tim Mitchell. Nearly ten years ago, in 2009, Tim and I released my first record, "Journey," which we'd created together on weekends while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. Since that time, Tim has gone on to work with legends like Bob Dylan, Sting, and Paul Simon, to name a few. I'm very proud to have been able to put together this project with him and appreciate him deeply for his dedication to it.

"The Bird in My Chest" is a love record. That might not sound all that unique at first but, in the context of my body of work, typically social commentary songs or narrative storytelling songs, this type of intimate, self-exposing collection of music is in fact a rare bird. To enhance the intimacy of the project, I've published a small book of short stories and poems that were written at the same time as the music, many of which correlate to the content of the tunes or provide deeper insight into life on the road as a traveling troubadour.

This is the first time I've formally published my short stories and poems, and I've really enjoyed the unification of my creative selves. I think the result is a unique amalgamation of music and the written word, and I truly hope you enjoy this project as much as I did creating it.
As this is a debut concept for me, we've only printed 100 copies of the project for the time being. We wanted to offer the opportunity to loyal listeners, readers and supporters to purchase a copy first, before posting it's availability for sale on the website and other internet retail outlets. Because of a much higher production cost, the duo of the book and record cost $25. They are beautifully designed by Chris Garre in a 9 inch by 9 inch case that holds both CD and book.
For advance purchases that have already been placed, all orders will ship this week.
Thank you for your continued support. It is because of you that I am enabled and inspired to create.
