West End Art Depot - Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, NM – West End Art Depot and Gabrielle Louise present an evening with five outstanding female songwriters. With performances by Melanie Jean Humphreys, Victoria Budlong, Gabrielle Louise, Lilis Urban, and Audra Rodgers. Daniel Graves will add lead guitar work to several of the ladies' songs. The concert will consist of two sets, beginning at7:00 and running roughly until10:00. Admission is $10 at the door.

Each songwriter in the line-up brings a unique style and contribution to the show.  All are multi-instrumentalists, and many sound colors and combinations are created. While each performer will be featured in her own set, there is much collaboration between acts.

Melanie Jean Humphreys is homegrown in Las Cruces, graduating first from Mayfield high school and then from New Mexico State University in 2008 with a music degree. She now teaches music at Mesilla Elementary School. This is the debut performance of her original music and will feature her performing on flute, ukulele, and percussion.

Victoria Budlong is the prettiest little thing you've ever seen holding an upright bass. Originally from England and landing in Las Cruces by way of Austin and Los Angeles, she performs most regularly with The Blue Gramas, a Las Cruces band pumping out acoustic music that 'lectrifies the listener. For this performance, Victoria plays guitar as well, serving up soul drenched sounds in a husky alto belt. When she's not playing music you can find her farming at the Mountain View Market Farm.

Nationally touring singer-songwriter Gabrielle Louise hails from Boulder, CO. She will perform her original contemporary folk music on guitar, piano and ukulele. This Las Cruces appearance comes on the heels of a CD release tour for Gabrielle's new album, The Bird in my Chest. Versatile, vivacious, and completely unafraid to explore multiple genres, Gabrielle is at one moment folkie and ethereal, and the next a smoky jazz chanteuse. She'll be re-appearing at the Rio Grande Theater for their Every OtherTuesday series thisApril 29th.

A Las Cruces favorite, vocalist Lillis Urban writes and performs songs tied to the New Mexican landscape and the American ideal. Her vocal style is honest and rough, yet innocent. Her songs are the sort that you hear for the first time and feel as though you have known and heard before. Urban plays the acoustic guitar and the clawhammer banjo, an instrument she picked up and fell in love with while living in Arkansas with her family.

Audra Rodgers will delight and charm you with the number of instruments she can coax a beautiful sound out of. She writes and performs on banjo, guitar, trumpet and ukulele. She can be seen plucking the bass, singing, and even playing lap steel.  She’s just returned from a seven month stint on the road with the DAMN Union (Doña Ana Music Night Union), a 7-piece Americana/folk/funk band from Las Cruces, NM.  Frequently smiling from ear to ear and dancing her way through her songs, Audra Rodgers shines with positivity and freedom.

The evening is an alcohol-free event, please leave your drinks at home or enjoy them after the show.
